Yeah, i grew up in Toronto/Mississauga, and i didn’t hear about Calzones until they were on an episode of Seinfeld I think. But Panzarotti were everywhere. Hell, my immigrant (not Italian) mother even made them for us (store bought dough, but she filled them and fried them). They are very common up here. Read more

A smaller version is served at most tapas restaurants under a different name. Back 10 or 15 years ago when every second restaurant that opened in Manhattan had a tapas menu, and even lots of bars decided tapas was bar food (it essentially is) there was “panzerotti” all over the place. Haha, had exactly the same thought. I have definitely demanded that we get panzos at a certain time of night, many many times. They’re usually a bit bigger than this article describes in the parts of Ontario I’ve been around, but not by much. One hungry, soon-to-be-happy person could take one down no problem. Read more
