I like using maple syrup as the ‘first’ sweetener in savory sauces as it carries some toasty, caramel, woody notes, then to adjust for a ‘plain’ sweetness with simple white sugar to taste afterwards. It’s not necessary per se, but I think it does add a little extra something :) Read more
