This location might not look like anything special, but it’s where history was made: The first-ever Chipotle location can be found on Evans Avenue, right next to the University of Denver. It opened in 1993 in a former ice cream shop, and its college-student-adjacent location made it an almost instant success. The inside looks like pretty much any other Chipotle, but as the flagship, it’s the one that sets the tone for the whole chain. (And you can’t beat that signage.)

Atlanta boasts the world’s largest Chipotle outdoor patio. It’s not huge, but it wraps around this corner location at the intersection of Piedmont and Lenox in the Buckhead Forest area. The outdoor seating is equipped with shade umbrellas for the daytime sun and Edison bulb accents for evening dining.

If you’ve ever taken a trip to Boston, you know that the Downtown Crossing area is frozen in time—sort of. Situated among some of the nation’s oldest bars and restaurants are modern-day businesses that make use of the city’s 18th-century architecture, including this Chipotle on School Street. It occupies the former site of the Old Corner Bookstore, constructed in 1718.

The signage on this New York Chipotle location looks more like a marquee for a Broadway show than a burrito joint, adopting the Art Deco aesthetic the city is known for. Then again, it really has no choice if it wants to sell guac in this particular location: It’s located on the first floor of the Empire State Building, one of the most iconic structures in Manhattan.

This Chipotle location on Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas is only blocks from the famed Capitol building. While the building is itself vintage, it also made history in a different way: It was the first Chipotle location to be awarded a four-star rating by the city’s Green Building Program, which recognizes sustainability-minded structures.

It might sound pejorative to say that this St. Louis Chipotle location on Grand Boulevard sits in a flying saucer building, but that is literally the name locals use: the Flying Saucer Building. The Riverfront Times explains that the midcentury modern building, erected in 1967, originally housed a Philips 66 gas station before giving way to a host of restaurants: Naugles (a burger/taco joint), Del Taco, and now, a combination Starbucks and Chipotle location. The glass walls offer tons of natural light.

This Chipotle on Forest Road in Sedona, Arizona offers views of red rock buttes that almost look fake, like Chipotle erected a backdrop in the window. With full-length windows and an outdoor patio, this location encourages visitors to order their food “for here,” taking in the natural beauty of both Snoopy Rock and a fully loaded burrito bowl.

For transit nerds—of which there are plenty—this Chipotle on Dickson Street in Fayetteville is right near the University of Arkansas and, more importantly, right inside the Frisco Depot train station. The building has hosted a number of chains since being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, including a Häagen-Dazs. Chipotle sparked a bit of drama over its signage being added to the building in 2011, but the location is still going strong.

Located on St. Martins Lane in the Covent Garden area of London’s West End, this Chipotle location simply couldn’t look more British if it tried. Chipotle describes this location as one with “a façade of Victorian and Edwardian influence,” and it’s uplit at night so the cherubs that grace the doorway are always visible. Once inside, though, it’s pretty much the Chipotle customers expect.

This Paris Chipotle location sits on the Boulevard Montmartre and marks Chipotle’s first entrée into the French market. It has a remarkable three floors of dining space and an attention-grabbing glass facade. But of course, it needs to stand out against the competition—it sits directly beside a KFC, a Starbucks, and a McDonald’s.
