I'm glad to hear you feel there is a lot of change inside GM. But from an outsider's perspective, we heard that when Rick Wagoner was CEO, and look how that turned out. People don't judge GM on the way it looks from the inside, because so few of us are on the inside, compared with the number of you there. We take it Read more

That's a comparison I've never considered. What would you think people would want to buy from this version of GM? Read more

In all honesty, this is a mass market car company. It's not Tesla. Even Cadillac isn't Tesla. I don't think that would work. But you can do something with these parts. Read more

On your bankruptcy point, that's what a lot of people that I speak with at other companies say. GM's quick rinse was too fast to really have much of a cultural impact (it did wonders for the balance sheet). Now, of course, a conventional Chapter 11 case would have been much longer, and more painful, but it would have Read more

Culture is an enormous problem for any organization. When I was writing Collision Course, a senior level person at GM said to me, "You keep asking all these questions about culture. Why do you care about that soft, sucky stuff?" And he wasn't alone in having that attitude. Read more

John, tell me if this is true or an urban legend. A car service driver told me the fastest way from Manhattan to LGA is the 59th Street bridge, then surface streets. But he says taxi drivers won't take it because there are no tolls, and you can get higher tips when there are tolls. What do you think? Read more

I was on the Autobahn once and a smart zoomed by me on the left, probably going well over 150k. If it had hit anything, it would have been like a rocket. Read more

Here's a story I wrote for Forbes back in January. My spidey sense tells me that GM would like to unload Opel or joint venture it or some how lessen its exposure. http://www.forbes.com/sites/michelinemaynard/2012/01/30/3-reasons-why-gm-may-have-to-give-up-on-opel/ Read more

My understanding is that GM wants to make Chevrolet its primary global brand. IF (and that's a big IF) something happens with Opel, i.e. it's shut down or sold, then GM hasn't thrown its lot in with Opel. It isn't likely anything will ever happen to Chevrolet. Although people might have said that about Pontiac once Read more

Very nice, Owen-Magnetic! I actually couldn't bring myself to watch the movie after the reviews it got, even though some of my favorite actors and actresses were in it. But I saw the Broadway revival of Nine with Antonio Banderas. He was great, and he'd be terrific in more musicals. Read more

It depends on the reason for the delay. If it's caused by the airline, you may be entitled to compensation. If it's weather, they don't have to give you anything. http://airconsumer.dot.gov/publications/flyrights.htm#delayed Read more
