Damn. It’s rainy here and now I’m ordering this thing for lunch. Read more

Half of me agrees: a hand-made, artisan durable good like the aforementioned tea scoop makes some sense, since it’ll last forever and buying it supports a (theoretically) independent craftsman. $52 might be a little steep, but quality costs money. Read more

I vaguely remember having a conversation w/ a brewer where he mentioned they usedecaf” coffee because of state law banning alcohol & caffeine (several areas have “4loko laws” that make it harder to sell caffeinated alcholic drinks). My memory is fuzzy though so I could have misunderstood, or dreamed the whole thing.

Love milk and always will. I dislike enough “popular” foods that I get that people just sometimes don’t like something, but I don’t write smug ass think pieces about how peanut butter is so bougie or whatever. Leave me and my milk to our love. Read more

My take from this is that replacing my weekday morning coffee with a weekday morning coffee porter isn’t going to work out. Read more

I remember ordering this the first time. Whoever made it was not skilled enough to make it so that literally any of the cheese stayed in the crust during baking. All the knots burst and the cheese either oozed back into the pizza or just sat at the bottom of the now sunken knot. Read more

As someone with a pretty extreme caffeine sensitivity, this is useful information.  I’ve found I can’t have chocolate at night, but then again it’s pretty high in caffeine (12mg/oz for dark chocolate, and who eats just a single ounce?).  So it’s good to hear that there’s almost no caffeine in that one particular Read more

I like coffee, but something about it cold just accentuates the acrid, bitter roastiness of it.  I am also anti-coffee stouts.  There’s one out here that everyone raves about (Bent Paddle Double Shot Double Black) that I can’t bear to spend the money to try, just because I know the chances of me liking it are slim. Sounds like an amped-up version of the slacker noodles I made last week (basically butter & TJ’s mushroom powder blend, which I assume has MSG in it.) I look forward to trying this! Read more

This has always been one of my pet peeves.  I did a lab in college where we measured caffeine in sodas, so I know it’s not too difficult. Read more

The story of the rise of Vietnamese-Cajun food is deep enough to warrant another dedicated article. While I live in Chicago now, I grew up in Baton Rouge and Houston. Getting crawfish boil from the Asian markets was a regular occurrence. Read more

Thanks for this. This issue has been keeping me up at night.  Read more

We were just talking about this over on Beer Advocate, so this was a nice coincidence. I’m not a huge fan of coffee beers (I’m not a big coffee guy in general), but while a lot of people seemed to assume there wasn’t much coffee in said beers, I could swear that they’ve occasionally made me a little jittery. FULL FAT MILK FOREVER!!! I was a very picky eater as a child, so we had homo milk to try and stave off malnutrition. Never really looked back! I did find a few years ago that milk was affecting my eczema a little, but switching to a nicer dairy (the milk comes in glass bottles) helped. I also just like milk. Read more
