After a very disappointing trip to the hospital while on vacation I got to take home a really nice insulated mug that they gave ice water in. Read more

I have an annual family vacation to Canada I hadn’t gone on in years, and I managed to find the time to go this year. What was unusual is we went right before Halloween, so I was able to bring back a box of not-available-in-the-US Halloween candy to hand out at parties this year. It was great. Read more

I brought back a couple of bottles of apple schnapps from Germany. If you’ve never tried German schnapps, they are not at all like the sugary bullshit we get in the US. I don’t know how to describe them, except if you imagine what an 80-proof apple liquor would taste like if it was delicious without being too sweet. Read more

Drumgray’s Highland Cream Liqueur from Scotland. Way better than Bailey’s. Read more

Use to be boiled peanuts from when I would go see my family in Georgia, but now I can find them canned in the local Wally World.  Read more

I brought back a very pretty bottle of aged Luigi Francoli Grappa di Nebbiolo from Italy back in January.

Thanks for writing about this one. I saw it in the store a couple of weeks ago but wasn’t ready to pull the trigger given the 50% hit rate on “Low Calorie” IPA’s for me so far (Firestone Walker Easy Jack- Outstanding, Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty- god awful) but I’ve had...several...of these since the write-up. Anything to make people forget their first disastorous foray into disavowing bikinis-n-burgers, the Carl Hardee III campaign from early 2017.

I like this. My wrist and arm were in a cast all fucking summer. My Guy had to untwist all of my bottled water and put it in rows for me, as well as everything else in the kitchen. He was a couple hours late one evening and I just sat there with my new unopened jar of salsa and cried. Read more

I have the major gadgets that have become big recently - Instant Pot, sous vide circulator, air fryer - and the air fryer is the only one that has earned a permanent space on the counter (replacing the deep fryer that used to sit there.) I use it pretty close to daily. We use it to reheat a lot of things that would Read more

Get two of these. Stack 9+9 plus a cup or so of water and cook 18 at one time. 5 minutes pressure, 5 minutes release, into an ice bath. Perfect. Peel like a dream. There are even timings online for doing soft boiled. Perfect ramen eggs.

I love my air fryer and use it for everything including Boca/quorn burgers sometimes too. I have a window on mine, bought it from an infomercial. Frozen fries take 14 minutes usually, mozzarella sticks 5 minutes at 370. I have 3 trays too. No preheating the oven and super fast and crunchy. Excellent!!! We use it Read more

Oh, very much longer. Very, very much. So much so, that the next year, I deployed a Hostess Cupcake Easy Bake to save time. Didn’t save hardly anything. Had to pry that one open, too. Read more

Hard boiled eggs. Trumps every other method I’ve tried. Perfect peel every time. My holiday deviled eggs are going to actually look good this year, instead of looking like they have egg leprosy.
