There was a time (when they displayed their “Thrifty Acres” moniker) I found Meijer’s produce atrocious. I ended up going to Kroger or the neighborhood Hollywood Market instead - at least their produce looked fresh. Now it’s on par with the other two stores so it doesn’t matter. When I was assigned to a project in Read more

I refuse to shop at H-E-B...because I am not going to move to Texas.  Can they just go ahead and...expand out to other states please? Read more

I shop almost exclusively at Meijer, but despise Festival and Woodmans. Festival is too bright, over priced, and the layout is weird. Woodmans is somehow always both too busy and deserted at the same time, also the faux brick flooring is just awful.

Trader Joes. People seem to think they create and sell all this super interesting and healthy food, but when I walk into their store, I see a lot of super processed frozen and grocery items which contain tons of sodium and the same long, unpronounceable ingredients as the worst Walmart out there. There is nothing Read more

I’ve got a Super Walmart, and let me say: shopping at 3 or 4 AM on a weeknight with literally nobody else in the store other than the employees is EXTREMELY gratifying! No lines, nobody blocking the aisles, and instead of just giving-up when something I wanted was out-of-stock? There was usually a distributor there Read more

I really like Big Y, a New England-based chain that probably would have gotten a low score because of its # of locations. And really, who wouldn’t just go to the nearest supermarket for cookies & ice cream? Read more

There are grocery stores I won’t go into again. Every once in awhile I find a grocery that is or looks dirty. And they are never going to see me again.   Read more

Walmart. Although, I broke down and went there once to see what it’s like. Had some good stuff at good prices. I’ve been there maybe 2-3 times since. It’s bleak, and I’d rather support local stores like Schnucks or Dierbergs. (RIP Shop’n Save). Read more

Ugh. this always annoyed me about Winco. Fortunately, they take debit and have express self scans now, although the machines aren’t ideal. I’ve found Winco is the best place to buy lunch meat, it’s good and not too expensive, and they have it prepackeged so you can just grab it and go. Read more

I’ve never really gotten the appeal of Whole Foods or New Seasons, they just seemed like mostly the same stuff but more expensive to me. Maybe if I was into neckbeards or yoga pants I’d get it, dunno. I do make the random trip to New Seasons once in a while to buy the Olympia Provisions Wieners, though, because Read more

I’d never step into a Publix knowing the owner bankrolled the Jan 6 insurrection attempt. Read more

Food Lion. I went to the first one to open in the Dallas area the first week it was open and the meat/fish department already smelled bad. The subsequent scandal did not surprise me. Read more

I refuse to shop at Walmart. It’s dirty, often disorganized, and other things. I do like Meijer, it’s kind of a regional, nicer, Walmart in terms of being an everything store. They have the best deals on meat and a decently varied produce department. Mostly I shop at Kroger because my family are dairy addicts and they Read more
